Kempo
Our school of Kempo is called ‘Kaido Miwa Ryu Kempo’, or ‘The Way of Transforming Intention Three Rings Fist/Sword Law.’
It is an eclectic collection of arts, brought together by a practical no-nonsense approach to combat. It could be summarised by the principle, ‘master it, keep what works, discard everything else.’
It’s practitioners have used this mindset to great effect, integrating these arts into a complete living system over several centuries, a process of evolution that continues today.
It incorporates native Japanese arts, such as Goryu Jutsu, Teodori, and Tengei, with arts of Chinese descent, such as Kakuto Jutsu, Shin Kakuto Jutsu, Kukishin Bojutsu, and Reishiken.
In more recent years, it has been greatly influenced by Boxing, Xingyi Quan, Karate, Judo, and Muay Thai.
Students of Kaido Miwa Ryu Kempo hone a broad range of skillsets, including modern barehand fighting, stand-up grappling, ground work, and knife fighting, as used to great effect by the Japanese special forces, and UFC champion Chuck Liddel.
Students also study sword, spear, and halberd techniques, and learn about the battle tactics that dominated the battlefields and politics of medieval Japan.
