The full name of our school is ‘Kaido Miwa Ryu Kakuto Bugei’ (化意道 三輪 流 格闘 武芸).
This is roughly rendered in English as ‘Transmission of the Way of Transforming Intention Three Realms Combat Law Fighting Art’.
The three rings refer to the three realms of the Yoshida Shinto cosmology: Takamagahara, Nakatsukuni and Yominokuni.

No! We welcome students of all abilities and backgrounds. There is something here for everyone, whether you want to stay healthy, learn how to fight, are an experienced martial artist looking for other arts to add to your quiver, or are simply passionate about Asian culture and want to find out more.

There is no wrong age to start martial arts training! We cater to the individual needs of each student. Please ask Trystan for more details about our different styles, to find out more about what training is ideal for you.

Trystan is happy for you to come, and see if our training works for you. We offer gentler Taiji Quan training for people who need to do something soft and forgiving on the body.

No. Everyone has a different reason for training in martial arts, and we appreciate that some people will not feel comfortable sparring.
There are varying degrees of application in all of our arts, from low to high intensity, bringing the student from a highly restricted ruleset, to gradually increased freedom and intensity.
Please let Trystan know if you would like to take this part of training slowly, or would rather focus on other aspects.

You are welcome to give any of our styles a go! Each student is taught individually, with a unique personal emphasis on training and methods. Feel free to try out any of our styles to find out which ones you enjoy most, and best meet your needs.

Wear comfortable and stretchy clothes that don’t limit your range of movement. If you would like to keep learning, you may need to buy some specialist martial arts clothes. Please ask Trystan for more information about where to get what you need - he will be happy to advise you!

Grading is on a one-to-one basis, and is at the discretion of the instructor. Throughout the course of your training the instructor will assess your command of the material for each grade, and will award belts and/or sashes when they feel you have met the necessary requirements.

If you cancel within 24hrs of your lesson, you must pay for the missed class in full.

Refunds are given at the discretion of the instructor.
If you have paid for a block of lessons in advance, but have not been able to attend due to special circumstances, it may be possible to roll it towards the next date you can attend.
